Native American Drum Making Workshop

Create your own rawhide drum. Learn to use your drum to "make your own medicine".

A weekend journey into the craft and ceremony of native American drum making. Much more than just making an instrument, this weekend experience will take you on a journey of creation and connection with your new life tool - Experience the power of the drum.

The drum has been with us from the beginning. Throughout the world, indigenous cultures have used the drum as a tool for communication, music, ritual, and healing.

To the Native Peoples the drum is the heartbeat of the nation. Its resonance is a powerful way to connect with self - with Spirit Medicine.

This workshop will take you on a journey of self discovery - the discovery of your spiritual connection with the drum!

This workshop will be for max 15 people $75 deposit (non-refundable*) will reserve your place.*to cover hoops and hide.

NOTE due to a mix up with venue Friday night gathering is available for an additional $20, if you can make it we encourage you to take advantage as its a great opportunity to settle into the weekend, meet and be ready to start your journey promptly on Saturday morning - just email if you want to come along on the Fridfay night.

You will need:

A good sharp pair of scissors
(you will be cutting rawhide so they must be decent or bring two pair cheapies !!)

A Hammer

A stick for your drumstick
This may be gathered from nature or created with a dowel or whatever for/by you. Whatever feels right with you. Most importantly, it should be comfortable to hold for sustained periods and sturdy enough to take a beating. Approx. 30 cm long. You may have other special items to decorate your stick with – feathers, crystals, ribbon, fur, etc..   Great !! Bring ‘em !!

It is highly suggested that participants remain on the grounds for the entire weekend, Provisions to sustain you for two complete days (Sat & Sun.) I would suggest food with “gusto” and pre-cooked or easily/quickly prepared.  Sat eve meal is usually a shared meal with all of us together.

About RICHARD LITTLEFEATHER

I was born in Chimney Rock, Pennsylvania, USA. Things were pretty simple then. My parents had a 98 acre farm on which there were any number of different common place farm animals. We played in the barn, the natural spring just behind and spent many a day roaming the fields and woodlands surrounding the two bedroom two story cottage we lived in. Life was good.

I began my current journey in the summer of my tenth year. A vision was given to me while amongst several of my cousins as we were catching lightning bugs in my Grandmothers front yard. I was the only one who saw.

My Grandma and Dad agreed that what I was trying to excitedly explain to them was nothing. They didn't want to hear any more about it. My Mom, however, felt quite different. Thankfully!

It was through her initial guidance that the path I walk this and every day is my journey.

Growing up, I was taught hand crafts such as leather working and beading from tribal members. A Lakota Sioux elder taught silver smithing and instructed me in some of the cultural ways of his people.

For the past 16 years, I have become workshop leader, teacher, University lecturer, and public speaker.

I have been running workshops for 20+ years sharing culture, hand crafts, and teaching Personal Awareness; based on the tenet of respect and awareness of the natural world around us.

The workshops I offer are effective ways in which participants can learn how to gain understanding of themselves and their surroundings, providing valuable life skills.
